: ignition coil /points to hei distributors help
storm Mar 25th, 04, 8:45 PM hi my 70 chevelle malibu 307 went to 350 the two ignition coil wire i have to change over to 12 volts when i pull the wire harness box off off the firewall how is the easiest way to pull the end out so i can put in the new wire?? needle nose?? i dont want to break anything. thanks storm.
68Elkie Mar 25th, 04, 9:40 PM If the 70 is the same as my 68, you just need to squeeze the blade terminal a little and it should push right out. When you look at the terminal from the side you should see a slot cut in it - this is what you want to compress when you squeeze it. I used pliers to squeeze and just pulled on the wire.
The tough part was getting the old wire off and getting the terminal spread apart so I could crimp the new wire into it.
storm Mar 25th, 04, 9:59 PM thats the way i thought it would work but you knoe nothing is that simple. also what typu of wire did you use soilded wire or copper braided?
d1_bradley Mar 25th, 04, 10:11 PM You can still buy the terminals (both pieces) at an AC Delco dealer. Usually listed under Auto Electic Service in the Yellow Pages. And I used 12GA stranded wire.

John_Muha Mar 26th, 04, 12:27 AM I'd leave the wire alone and run a new wire from the IGN terminal on the fuseblock. One place to get a new wire and HEI connector is here.

68Elkie Mar 26th, 04, 7:15 PM I used Red, 12 gauge, stranded copper wire that I picked up in an Auto Parts store. Couldn't find Pink.
John's suggestion to just run a new wire is a good one, especially if you don't want to molest your existing harness. I pulled all my harnesses apart and got rid of the resistor wire and the distributor wire that goes to the starter. I also got rid of my voltage regulator because of the upgraded alternator, and ran new wires for electric fans & relays.
