Something for you to consider. I use "Lightning Stripper", works like a charm, very fast and very deep (goes through many layers). The catch? It's best to scrap the gunk off onto newspaper then put into a container and take to local HazMat facility. Most there is no charge to homeowners, while others the charge is cheaper than dipping.

Your call, but this works in my time and schedule and I have more control over the results.

There are many other stripper products out there, and while I haven't tried them all, this one has worked well for me. They also have a rust remover that is unbelievable!
