I bought a 71 Convertible 400 Malibu and was looking for similar info as NVR2Fast. I was also told by a couple guys that restore cars, I should turn into a SS Clone that all I would need to do is change the dash. They said even though a clone it would bring more money if I went to resale it.
I looked with a mirror and can see where someone filled the holes where the emblems were. It must have been done a long time ago or it looks like it. It has lacquer paint on it and looks to be very old. The interior appears to be original. I pulled up the carpet and I think it is original. Is there a way to tell for sure? This car has Jade interior. Would the carpet be a darker green? If I repaint I am thinking of changing colors but I am thinking about letting it go for a while. The carpet is not torn but is discolored so I thought that I would change the carpet for now. I pulled the tar pad up and put por on the floors. It’s motor and tran’s are ser # matching and date codes on the rear look correct. I did not find a build sheet under carpet or seats. :( Any info and thoughts would be appreciated.

al,
I looked there. I have all the interior out but the dash. I painted my floors. I was just going to do the edges where the carpet had bare metal and I just could not stand it. Had to do the whole thing.
