This received no response in the Transmission section, so I'll try it here.

My '67 with a Muncie 4 speed doesn't have a speedo cable. I want to install one. Does anyone know the right length?

And can you give some details about routing the cable? Which hole on the firewall, how does it go over the transmission, etc.

Here's the short version: Muncie cable (exits trans on pass. side) should enter at a hole in the passenger side toeboard rather than under the steering column (see your assembly manual). There should be some clips under the floorboard (pass. side) to retain the cable. The cable should be 62 1/2 inches overall.

Cars originally equipped with a Saginaw 4-spd would not have the hole in the toeboard and the cable (exits trans. on driver side) would enter in the standard location under the steering column. There would be clips under driverside floor to retain the cable. That cable would be 56 1/8 inches overall.

Another question (or two) occurred to me. I looked under the car and found a nice neat one inch round factory hole on the passenger side near where the front of the floor meets the tunnel.

1. Did only the four speed Muncie cars have that hole from the factory -- did automatics and non-Muncie cars not have that hole drilled?

2. Does anyone make/sell a rubber plug to fill the hole and run the speedo cable through?
