: Re: Help oil on driveway (pavement)
Roxxy Aug 16th, 04, 6:54 PM I have always been careful, but the neighbors kid decided to oil his bike chain, and made a mess in the driveway. I have tried kitty litter, sand, dish soad, orange clean, degreaser with no avail.
In case your woundering the neighbours kid honestly didn't know any better and he wont be doing that again. Again this is pavement no cement.
Thanks guys.
dirty_dawg Aug 16th, 04, 6:59 PM Try carb cleaner....but becareful...it may start to eat the asphault.
Any kind of "bike chain oil" won't last too long.
You drive a Chevelle right?, Don't sweat the small stains!
Oh, muratic acid, diluted to ratio 4:1 (where the 1 part is muratic), works good.
d1_bradley Aug 16th, 04, 7:53 PM Back when I was a kid and worked a FULL SERVICE gas station, we used kerosene, worked great. Pour on, let it soak, then hose off.
Xtreme70SS396 Aug 16th, 04, 8:22 PM New Pig makes a great stain hider for cement. Might be too much for one spot on the driveway, though.

lemontcars Aug 16th, 04, 8:46 PM try simple green it has worked for me and it is safe
JJ'65 Aug 17th, 04, 2:53 PM Where do you live? In a hot, sunny place like central California, oil stains like you describe eventually evaporate away and bleach out on their own.

Philip Aug 17th, 04, 2:57 PM I believe Roxxy is in eastern Canada.
rafbo Aug 17th, 04, 3:12 PM If it is concrete, try some laquer thinner on a rag and wipe clean
TSN100 Aug 17th, 04, 4:06 PM i use mineral spirits and kitty litter. just pour it down, spread the litter, and sweep it around. no scrubbing. just dont try this on asphalt.

wanarace Aug 17th, 04, 9:09 PM Poor paint thinner on it, then light it on fire. Man was the shop floor clean after that accident, except for the soot marks around the edge.

Cam Aug 23rd, 04, 10:50 PM Tri Sodium Phosphate, or TSP for short. Wet the pavement, sprinkle on the TSP, scrub it in with a bristle brush. You may need to mist it with a bit of water to keep it pasty. After about 5 minutes, hose it off. The oil will float off and rinse away (it works for me). For really stubborn stains, repeat another time or 2. No problem.
