What is the difference in the mounting bolt location and hinges between the 68 and 69 hoods?

Yes there are some major differance's 69 hinges are longer and have a stiffening bump or structural support in them the 68 hinge and hood is flat in that same area ....Also the secondary latch has a knock out to recive this on 69....I learned the hard way ...bought an excellent NOS hood which i thought was 69 surprise 68 If you have a 69 NOS hood would love to trade or buy... This is for a two year frame off L-78 numbers car
Thanks

From how you describe the hinges I do believe that I have 69 hinges and a 68 hood. The hinges have a bump just behind the back bolt hole and the hood is flat in that general area. The guy who claims to be the rebuilder of the car said that he used a junkyard hood off of a 68 SS. This may be my problem. The hood rubs the nose piece when shut and sometimes requires a little persuasion to open. The hood is as far back toward the windshield as the hinges will allow.

Don't think that '69 hinges will mount up to a '68 hood.

The hole centers for the hinge mount to the hood panel is different. I THINK if you use the proper hinge with a same year hood, the fender mount end is the same. Not absolutely sure on this, but I do know the hole centers are different by about 3/4".

The '68s came in two hinge styles. The early's had the flat mount smaller center to center bolt pattern, and the later model was the same as the '69s.

I went thru all this when switching to a Harwood fibreglass hood (listed for 68-69 chevelle/malibu), and had to switch my hinges to the flat type. After many phone calls (thinking I got the wrong hood), I ended up getting a set off of a 69 camaro and it worked great.

Thanks for the info smokum. I was looking at ordering a Harwood glass hood. Having a raised cowl hood will help incase i ever decide to go with a highrise intake.

1968 hood bolt centers are 12" apart.
1969 hood bolt centers are 14.5" apart.
