: Was it possible to get AC on a '69 375hp car?
elcamino72 Feb 26th, 04, 12:59 PM I was wondering if it was possible to get factory installed AC on a 1969 Chevelle SS 375 horse car?
Here is why I'm asking - http://www.dreamcarstore.net/stock_206.htm
I know it wasn't availible with the LS6, but I was wonder about this.
Thanks

Dean Feb 26th, 04, 1:17 PM No, no A/C on 375 hp cars from factory
but the ad says "NOM" which I suppose means non original motor
Don_Lightfoot Feb 26th, 04, 2:20 PM Concur with Dean's comments above. I couldn't get the thumbnails to open and would like to look at that engine shot.
Hey Dean - looks kind of familiar doesn't it  ;)
Bill Pritchard Feb 26th, 04, 3:42 PM Don,
The thumbnails opened fine for me
Dean's right, NOM = non-original motor. I looked at a very similar 69 coupe in Paducah KY about 5 years ago that had a/c and a 375 hp 396 out of a 69 Nova. It was a 4 speed, buckets & console, no vinyl roof, and Fremont built car though.
I think the ONLY way to get factory a/c with the 375 horse engine was if your name was Ed Cole, as in the GM boss... A '68 Z28 convertible was built for him and him alone.
There were concerns with overheating at idle and overspeeding the compressor. They didn't want the customer complaints or warranty headaches.
Nice looking car. I wouldn't mind it in my driveway.
The '68 Z/28 ragtop was built for Pete Estes not Cole.
From the Camaro side of it you couldn't get AC in 375 hp cars as well...
BlueSS454 Feb 26th, 04, 5:33 PM No factory solid lift cam cars had factory AC installed.

Oops! Serves me right for being a name-dropper!

. That is so true. The exception is the '71 - '74 Chevy Vega, but then who cares?
Don_Lightfoot Feb 26th, 04, 5:55 PM I believe there were a few solid lifter 365 HP Vettes with A/C in 1964 or 1965. Seems to me I've seen the odd "want ad" in Hemmings disclosing this, but that was years ago when I subscribed to their magazine
Agree, not available on any solid lifter Velle or Camaro up to 1970.
Tom Hendricks Feb 26th, 04, 6:42 PM You are right Don. 365 HP Corvettes had solid lifters and AC. But we'll let it slide this time since we were talking Chevelles ! ;)
Wait a minute. There's a local guy here with a '70 Chevelle LS-6 convertible (very nice car BTW). WITH FACTORY AIR. You mean it ain't real? :D

As for the solid lifter Corvette with a/c thing, you are probably right. I should stop portraying myself as a know-it-all graemlins/waving.gif

Von - are you telling us you do not believe him? :D
Tom Hendricks Feb 27th, 04, 8:23 AM I need to look at my sheet, don't I. Let me know where to send all the money !! :D
DZAUTO Feb 27th, 04, 1:00 PM (also ac on 72 Vettes with LT-1)
