I installed the American Thunder Flowmaster system a while back, since then i have removed the h-pipe, AND installed dumps right before the axles.
Problem is: before and after those changes, the car sounds awesome at idle, but at cruise rpms it quiets down alot. too much.
Question is: if i switch to 'straight thru' design muffs like ss maganflows, will they be loud all the time? What makes my current Flowmasters get quieter when I'm cruising?

It may have the delta flow technology that reduces interior resonance and when you are cruising the sound is behind you..but when you get on it it should get loud...not meant to be ridiculous when crusing

Its kind of like riding a Harley. The noise is BEHIND you at cruize speed and you can actually hear the mechanical noise of the engine. You could just run straight exhaust with NO mufflers and get a similar result at a certain speed with a certain throttle opening. If you stood on the side of the road and let the car go by, there would be some exhaust note.

Open headers will also quiet down when cruising along. When you are driving, you are moving past the noise, therefore it will seem quieter in the cab of the car.

What is your gear ratio? My car is has quite a note at idle, but at cruising speed (2200-2500) my car is almost Cadillac like quiet because of the 2.73's

What size is your exhaust? My 4" system is quiet (relative term) at idle and LOUD inside the car at cruise. I have 24" Magnaflow's with 2 Dynomax bullets per side.

I wouldn't complain. If you ever decide to drive the car to some event like Chevellabration or Hot August Nights, you'll welcome the relative quiet at cruising speeds. A loud car get old on a long trip, even for a seasoned hot rodder!!
