: Cut and Weld el Camino

I'm thinking on getting a 68 El Camino rear and cutting the rear clip off of my 72. The problem with the rear clip on the 72 is that the roof looks like swiss cheese because someone didn't take care of the vinyl top and the front side of the rear fenderwells is starting to rust out as well. I heard that the 68-72 pretty much have the same rear clip, and i looked at the clip, and they look the same, but someone said that they are slightly different from 68 and 72 because in 68 there is a slight difference in the taillight. I don't plan on restoring this car to original condition, and i don't really care if the body's are exactly alike, i just want the car back together and in good condition. Can someone explain what the taillight difference is, and enlighten me as to how much trouble i'm getting myself into by considering doing the cut and weld myself, with an experienced body man watching me?

The overall body is the same from the cowl back for the years '68 thru '72. The differences are the backup lights are in the bumper for '68, and in the tailgate for the remaining models. The tail-light lenses are a bit different, but they'll interchange if you aren't concerned about correct appearance.

As far as cutting and welding yourself, you should be OK with an experienced hand watching you. You just need patience and the right tools.

Let me know if you want to get rid of any decent parts from either vehicle. I'm not "actively searching", but I could use some parts for my '68.
