i read a lot of posts about polishing/buffing stainless and anodized aluminum.
is there an easy way to tell them apart? i understand that some stainless will attract a magnet and some not?
i'd like to buff my front and rear windshield trim pieces, are they stainless?

They are stainless.
Pretty good stainless too!
Might be a little hard to polish.
Aluminum is much lighter than stainless.

Check with Eastwood or some other supplier. I found that my bench grinder turned into a pretty decent polisher. With the right compounds and a little practice, you can do a pretty good job. With a lot of patience you can do a great job. If the buffer catches the part, you can have a piece of scrap in about a tenth of a second. Be very careful. You will find that the window, roof rail and vinyl top mouldings are stainless. The Grille pieces are aluminum as are the wheel well mouldings, and rear end trim, at least on '69s.

I wouldn't recommend polishing anodized aluminum unless you want to polish frequently after that. The anodizing is to protect the aluminum from corroding from the elements. Having aluminum pieces stripped, buffed and re-anodized is a longer lasting way to go.
