Last week, I pulled my car out of the garage for some cleaning, and when I went to put it back in, it barely ran, and there was a lot of gas pouring out of the back of the carb.

Now please bear with me, as I don't know much about carbs (or what the parts are called)

I removed the rear part of it to see if the float was stuck, or what and it looked like it worked. I replaced the gaskets just to make sure. I put it back together, and it still does it.

I had a friend crank it over while I looked to see where it was leaking from, and its on the very top of the rear part that I removed where the needle thing goes in for the float to close. I swapped that out with one from an 850 double-pumper that I have just to see if that was the problem, and it still leaks very badly, and doesn't run very good at all... then I screwed the thing in a little farther to see if it would close it, and it started and ran, but still leaked gas all-over.

I'm currently flat-broke, and can't afford to take it to a mechanic, so I'd really like to fix it myself. Please dumb any explainations down to my novice level smile.gif

Thanks in advance!!!

I'm going to guess you either have an improperly adjusted float or there's debris in the needle area. When the little sight plug on the side of the carb is removed and the carb's float is set and working right, gas should just come up to the very bottom of the hole and should just tricke out when the car is bumped.

you are my hero!

I've still got a little seeping out, but I think if I play with it a little longer, I'll have it fixed. Its now just above the sight hole when I shut it off from idle and leaking very little. Car runs good, just gotta get the leak stopped completely before I'll trust driving it.

"D-man", Holley's are cursed with dozens of little paper gaskets. I'll guarantee you that if there's a screw, there's nearly always supposed to be a gasket under it! Make sure there's no residual gasket "crud" on any mating surfaces, and the rule of "tight, and a tweak more" applies when re-assembling.

The exception would be like my accelerator pump diaphragm at Pan O Prog. The bowl came off without a hitch, and the old diaphragm peeled off without any residue. Parts for Parts swap-out.

I can't believe that little problem kept me from driving my car for a whole week  There was no way I was letting it sit this weekend, I just got my Torq-Thrusts on yesterday smile.gif

and what, exactly, was the problem?

Crud in the float. when i took it apart, I found the tiny peice of crud, but mis-adjusted it when I re-assembled graemlins/clonk.gif Thought I counted the turns, but apparently I was off a little.
