Did cowl induction hoods in 1970 Chevelle Super Sports (and possibly 1971 and 1972) come with screens from the factory or were the domed hoods the only hoods to come with it? Mine does not have one.

Yes cowl induction hoods do come with the screen.

I think it depends on what you mean by "screens". There is a screen on the back of the hood itself, covering the 2" raised area of the cowl induction hood.

There were no cowl screens on the body of the car under the windshield on the 70 chevelle, but I put them on mine cause I like them.

Thanks for the quick replies! I trust LS6-M22's reply as he has an original Chevelle SS that was a feature car on TC.

Xtreme70SS396 -- Yes, I meant the metal screen toward the back of the cowl induction hood, not the plastic screens that originally came on BOPs on the cowl area of the body.

What would be a fair value of an original, used GM screen? Maybe I should put one on mine. There is one available on e-bay at present. I just do not know why my original 70 SS did not have one. Would I ever miss it? Would my engine suffer if id did not have one? I don't really think so as any small particles of dust, etc., would not enter the carb due to the use of an air cleaner element. Larger items could not pentetrate the filter anyway. Screen was possibly removed during maintenance of the cowl induction flapper and/or door perhaps?

Based on below, I'd say new repos are $29.95 less 10% to TC members.

Thanks. I still do not really trust repops. I have experienced the pain of form, fit and function with them and try to stick with orignal GM parts as much as possible. Currently minimum $39 including shipping from e-bayer for a mint used GM original. Fair deal?

Bottom line is do I (my car) need it?

Be very careful when you install the screen. I bought the repop screen & a set of screws. Apparently I installed the screws at the wrong angle. The end of each screw rubbed up against the underside of the hood and made a dimple.
The screws may have been too long, but I believe that I put them in at too steep of an angle. I shortened the screws and then had a paintless dent repair shop undo my damage.

Thanks again for all replies I won the bid on the original GM screen. Talking about screws, what size are required? Most likely a phillips head I would presume.

Super70,

I have a stock 70 Chevelle with a cowl induction hood, and it has the screen. They are stock.
