One of the door locks on my wife's car quit working. I know the soleniod is getting power. The shaft moves slightly when the switch is energized. Does anyone know if I need to replace the whole latch assembly or just the soleniod?
TIA

all you have to replace is the little plastic "shoe" that fits over the end of the actuator arm. they crack and dont allow the arm to move the latch. take of the door panel, unhook the rods and wiring connectors from the latch. then remove the latch assembly. then remove the actuator, replace the shoe and reinstall. the rods are a litle hard to unhook. a long thin screwdriver/pry tool helps. you can get the part at the dealer.

What year? My thinking is if it's like the 80s car, check to see if the lock button manually moves up and down freely.

The car is a 96 and it can be unlocked manually fine John. Thanks for the help 4554, I'll see if the dealer can get me the "shoe" before I take it apart again.
