I have a door on dad's 53 that is kicking my butt. It has alot of area that has been metal finished and I am now filling with rage extreme. I still get pin holes from time to time do I need to sand these out totally and apply more rage or should I leave them and ice over them with metal glaze?
Should I just be adding rage to the lows that still exist in the rage or should I skim the entire area?
I know I am mixing the rage correctly, however it is 8 months old about but has been kept at 70 deg. I am working the air out on the mixing board as I always do.
Last question, if I don't have enough mud mixed to cover a whole area can I mix more and apply it adding on to the 5 minute old fresh mud or do I need to wait 15 minutes and sand a little before adding on (as I have been doing)
Well I guess if this was easy everybody wold do it! Thanks in advance.

You don't need to sand out the pinholes-just fill them with another skim of filler or glaze-no big deal.
Sometimes it is easier to skim an entire area than fill a low within a filler area, Or you may just try to fill the low area only and work it with your sanding board lightly while it is still on the soft side. This way 80-90% of the excess will be cut off making it easier to final sand and blend into the older filler. Then skim coat the whole area with polyester glaze.
You can add filler to filler when in the curing stage at any point, no big deal-it will adhere just fine but will cure at a different time than the first batch.
Do the filler work the best you can before moving on to primer, finish the filler off with 180 grit minimum, 220 or 320 would even be better, before moving on to primer. Any primer shrinkage will reveal what size sand scratches were filled long after the paint is on the car.
Have fun, Bob

Thanks Bob. That will save me allot of time. After getting advice from all of you on what primer to use I really don't know what shrinkage is, because I haven't noticed it. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Bob is right on the money about the finishing off 180 or more. We have a new guy at work that graduted from UTI, who thinks he knows it all cause he dropped 20K to go this high fluting shcool.
Anyway, he finishes off filler with 80 grit and always wonders why he sees sand scratches in the paint afterwards. He blames the painter for using too coarse of grit to sand the primer, but yet the scratches ONLY appear in the filler area.
What filler are you using? Rage Gold sands and spreads SOOOOO much better then Rage its not funny. All that goodness for a 1 dollar more a gallon

Sevt.. I think the new guy belives the fatory paint reps claim,, My high build burrys 80 grit with two heavy coats. and they do not feather back far beyond the affected area ! new school ?
Rage Gold is #1 and if we need a last slimmy full area coat.. add a few tablespoons of Evercoats pastic honey...for the final SKIM coat.

I agree on the rage gold and the rage extreme is also a very nice product, just a little finer grade it seems.
