Pete made the galvanized sound like the way to go,
in a post last year.

Do you have to wait a period of time before you paint over the galvanized ?

Are there any issues with prep, that need to be concidered ?

No wait. You have them skip the final step of an oil quench of the parts. There's also a specific primer you should use before you topcoat. I will need to spend some time dressing it up in areas to take care of spatter but for the most part its fine. My frame was solid but had pitting in areas. After dressing it some they should be mostly gone. The reason I went this direction was to address the difficult part of not being able to treat the insides properly. I plan on having this car till im gone and don't want to do it again when I'm 70. By then I just want to smoke tires. :D We took a painted boat trailer, my frame, bumper brackets, frame brackets, and even the motor mounts all for $470.00. You can also powdercoat the galv as well. I did talk to Pete before having it done. very helpfull. The place is just noth of Richmond, VA http://www.ctg.net/vagalvanizing/
there site is currently down

there adress and number can be fopund here..

Thanks JD.
The fact that galvanizing coats the areas, you'd never otherwise get to, is the point, that left the largest impact on me.

Someday...Someday, I'm gonna do this car right. :D

Do you have to prep the frame or do they hot tank it or chem dip it?

That is only 2 hours away from here. Think I'll get it done.

I was curious on how much weight does it add to the frame. I guess it would depend how thick the coating was.

Monalizaf.. Thats include dipping and stripping.
An outfit call Redi-Strip wanted $350 just to do the stripping.

66ss... As far as added weight its not to much. It adds about a .004" layer on. I was told it adds about 20 lbs. I add more than that each winter. tongue.gif
I will keep you all updated as I procede with my prep and finish. If you live in my area and want to have a look shoot me an email.

Yeah!! graemlins/thumbsup.gif I was on the line on this since it means taking the frame down to it's lowest elements but Pete's web site pics, write up,and this item sold me on it too. My son and I are in the process of tearing our 67 coupe down now. When we get the body lifted we'll begin the frame dissassembly for galvanizing. I'm going to box the lower ball joints first per Pete and his kit. We'll also box the rear lower control arms for a 7/8 or 1" sway bar. Then it's load up the frame, crossmember, A arms, rear control arms and bumper bracket on a trailer and head for Ashland, 2 hrs. away (after making the arrangements).

Big THANKS to Pete and you JD for the inspiration. Pete, we'll talk to you before we do it for final advice.

I got moist looking at those pictures. Great. Now I have another expensive and time-consuming project to add to the list.

That is SOOOOOO cool.

In spring of last year I asked those guys about stripping wire wheels. They do have a minimum and don't care for small jobs, so they didn't do it. Looks like they did a great job on the frames and everything else.
