: 72 Malibu 400 on ebay but not advertised as one
Rainer Nov 9th, 04, 1:41 AM Hey All -
Long time, no post, yes?
Check it - there's a 72 Chevelle on ebay, and it looks like its an original big-block car (Malibu 400). No mention of it in the listing, but check the VIN, and the fender pic.
Would be neat if it originally came with the stripes as shown, too.

Just_Another_Mike Nov 9th, 04, 2:13 PM Rainer, where'd your website go?
FIG Nov 10th, 04, 11:29 AM well hey stranger!!! graemlins/waving.gif
I would have to agree that this is an actual malibu 400.
Now don't be such a stranger... I'm going to need some info on 70 malibu 400's when I get farther along on my build...
Bill Pritchard Nov 10th, 04, 2:32 PM Hi Rainer,
Nice to hear from you!! Good to see you are still on the lookout for those elusive Malibu 400's.
It caught my attention because I had recently been looking for a 72 for someone. They wound up buying one on eBay from Kennewick WA.
gigem Nov 10th, 04, 2:47 PM Would be nice if there were some pics of the engine compartment.
What's with those extra two pins in the hood near the windshield?
Steve1972 Nov 10th, 04, 4:44 PM What is a Malibu 400?
Steve
Slowpoke70 Nov 11th, 04, 2:11 AM A Malibu 400 was the ONLY way to get a factory Big Block into a Malibu (NOT SS) without getting the SS package. It came with the BB 402ci LS-3(i think) engine. This was first done in 1970.
In 71-72, it was one of two ways to get the BB402 into a Chevelle without ordering an SS. One was the Malibu 400, same concept as the 1970 model. The other was the Heavy Chevy, which was the "poor man's" SS, it had striping and the domed hood but could be had with ANY engine EXCEPT the 454.
All years came equipped with the big block steering column, and I believe a 12 bolt rear end. You could, as with all malibus, also get the disc brakes, buckets and the round gauge dash. The only thing you couldn't get was the domed hood and SS striping packagdge.
Sleeper factory Big Block Malibu is a short description.
Steve1972 Nov 11th, 04, 9:55 AM Learn somthing new here everyday. Did they have any unique badges, or was it just a big block equipment package in a malibu?
Steve
Rainer Nov 12th, 04, 3:41 AM Yeah, I think I'm going to start checking in once in a while. Just have to do it in moderation smile.gif
Re: badging, nothing other than 400 emblems on the front of the fenders for 70, and toward the rear of the fender behind the wheel opening on 71-72 models. Since Radio Joe's Malibu 400 website is history, I'll have to put something together on these cars.
