: Previous LS6 owners - anyone know this car?
chris66SS396 Jan 21st, 04, 7:09 PM Hi there
I know this is a "long shot" but I figure it's worth a try and this board would be a great place to start. As I see it, someone took the time to special ordered this car and hopefully they're still into muscle cars. I'm currently restoring a ZP3 optioned (special paint - Daytona Yellow), stripe delete, cowl hood, bench seat, 4spd, ls6 car. This car was built in Van Nuys and sold in the Garden Grove area. What I "do" know is the car has spent almost it's entire life here in SoCal with the exception of a couple years up in the Seattle area. At some point a previous owner had black stripes added to the car.
I hope someone might remember this car...? Yes, I know it's a long shot but I'm just trying to do some fun research while things are slow during the restoration.
Thanks - Chris
Bomber '67 Jan 21st, 04, 11:50 PM Sorry, I can't help you much. But if you are looking through swapmeets for vintage license plate frames, the original name of the selling dealer was Eddie Hopper Chevrolet. If you have it off a build sheet, tell me the dealer code you have.

Mark 502 Jan 22nd, 04, 10:09 AM I think that's the car that was stolen from my driveway in 73. Your gonna have to return it!
chris66SS396 Jan 22nd, 04, 11:22 AM Hey there - Bomber '67
Yes, the dealer was "Eddie Hopper Chevrolet" which is stated clearly on the build sheet. I believe, the dealer zone is "20" and dealer number is "227" - can verify this later upon build sheet examination. Dealer plates would be a great find at a local swap meet.
Since your from "Garden Grove" - I hope you'll ask all your friends about this car.
"Eddie Hopper Chevrolet" no longer exists and I've tried to track down previous owners through the police - does anyone else know another way to track down past owners..? It's quite a long shot posting this info on the website...but it's also a some what unique car, I believe.
-Thanks
Bomber '67 Jan 22nd, 04, 11:37 PM Eddie Hopper Chevrolet became Nicholas Chevrolet in 1993 when the then general manager bought out the previous owner. Nicholas Chevrolet's GM dealer code is 20229, I wouldn't have expected the dealer code to have changed.
Does it still have the original license plates? I have occaisionally seen old Eddie Hopper plates at the swapmeet - but I was too cheap to buy them the last time I saw some.

chris66SS396 Jan 23rd, 04, 10:36 AM Hey - Bomber '67
No original plates on the car at this time - I really wish old dealers kept some sort of records.
Hey - BertMac
The infos already been posted on that site plus our sister Camaro site. I'm quite aware that trying to find any info on this car by posting on the net is a REAL long shot.
Does anyone else have any ideas to track down the original owner...?
I've tried the DMV here in SoCal - no luck.
greg2001 Jan 23rd, 04, 11:10 AM You might try getting in touch with local Chevelle clubs or car clubs in the general area. Usually guys that own high performance cars continue an interest even if they don't own anything at the time. Also try calling any local speed shops or if you know of any body work, done old body shops in that area. A orange LS6 is certainly a rarity and someone might remember it. If you are lucky enough to come up with a owners name, do what I did and search the internet for him. I just located the original owner of one of my LS6's.
chris66SS396 Jan 23rd, 04, 3:55 PM Thanks Greg
We've spoken in the past about this particular car. After reading your post about finding the original owner of your pilot car it actually inspired me to take up tmy quest once again - and it's proving to be just as tough as it was last time.

I still have hope....
ZZ69chevelle Jan 23rd, 04, 4:03 PM Maybe you should hit some of the older local tracks in your area and talk to some of the older guys. It's amazing what they remember.
LS_5 Jan 23rd, 04, 6:16 PM You didn't specifically say so, but I assume you tried to find the prior dealership owner through the current one who bought it in 1993.
Not sure what the state recordkeeping/business registration requirements are like there, but if you go to CA department of state homepage, you might find a link to department(s) that businesses must register with in order to do business in the state. Ours lists the business's name and principal owners. Anyone can do it, but I had an attorney friend here do one for me in PA. He did it so often he knew the routine to get to that particular page by heart.
If you find it, you just might be able to find old company listings, too.
Just a suggestion. Good luck!
