White is the most forgiving. Black is the least. The other colors depend on how shinney they are. Red IMO is not very forgiving.

Silver looks the best! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

The way it goes is the lighter the color, the more forgiving, the darker the color the less forgiving. It depends on which silver you are looking at. Some silvers are very very light and some silvers are pretty dark. So, to answer you question, yes and no http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Brian, you know an interesting thing, white shows body fit and lines more than other colors. If you have a car that you want to show off the perfect panel fit and gaps, white is the one.

On the other hand, black hides body lines and fit. If you have an ungainly car with distracking body style or just plain homely (yes I know that wouldn't be a Velle) the black will hide it's "look".

Greg, the ultimate in hiding bad body work, fit, you name it is a "Champagne" metallic like used in the mid sixties. You could paint a bag of walnuts with it and it will look straight. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks Martin, you learn something every day http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif I'll be sure to look for this at the upcoming car shows and cruises this summer.

Thanks,
Bryan

You know guys, color has a huge effect on how a car looks.
The darker the color the smaller it looks.

Next time you are at a show look for two cars that are the same make a model that are sitting next to one and other. If they are drasticly different in color like white and black, they will look like different cars! With the white looking much bigger.

If your car has a stripe, the color choice can make or break the looks of the car.

Don't just pick the colors you "like", pick the colors that will look the best in the "big picture".

Greg,

I think Silver is fairly forgiving.

Like MartinSR says Champagne/ Earth tones are the most forgiving. They also hide dirt as well as imperfections.
Never gave much thought to highlighting or hiding body fitment though. That is some really good info.
I painted mine Silver because it was originally Silver and I like Silver very much especially with the Black stripe.
I spent hours and hours with panel fitting and blocking before paint application.
The paint job no matter what color will only be as good as the prep work before application.

i like to use the phrase ( your pain job only looks as good as the body work) meaning you could have the best pain job in the world but if the body work is bad the car looks bad, martinsr is right with the colors and tones and gives excellent paint and body advice (thanx). if you do go with the silver or champaign just make sure it is sanded nice and smooth. metallic colors love to get into the smallest imperfections and reflect the sun at all angles. kinda like its yelling out loud "HEY LOOK AT ME IM A FLAW".

good luck http://budruski.myplace.com/

budruski, that is called "metallic stacking" and it is very common. If you guide coat between every grit of paper, you will pretty much eliminate it.
I don't use any sealers so finishing off the primer in a fine grit is very important. 400 is fine for a solid color, but for a metallic go to 500 and a high mica (pearl) color like the late models are using 600.
