: can I install inner fenders after outer fender is on?
bhawk Dec 19th, 04, 3:24 PM On my 65 chevelle, I have fit the outer fender about the best I can, and now I want to install the inner. I hope I can remove the tire and fit it in place. Is this possible? Or do I have to remove the outer fender and bolt the inner one to it, then reinstall both. I don't want to do this as it is hard to fit the gap to the door. I tried this before. Got the gap where I want it now, so I was hoping to later try to install the inner with the fender bolted down in place.
sevt_chevelle Dec 19th, 04, 3:51 PM You can a 70's dont see why not on a 65.
Id rather fit the fender first THEN install the inner wheel well
EddieC67ss Dec 19th, 04, 4:01 PM That's how I have always done it. Inner after the outer.
bhawk Dec 19th, 04, 4:04 PM thanks for the replies. I will tighten down the outer fender then try and install inner. If it doesn't work, I'll post back.
chevelledude71 Dec 19th, 04, 4:19 PM On my 71, I took the wheel off and then took the inner fender out; to take the inner fender out. Should be the same to install one. Wasn't to hard for me, and I'm no expert.
ACES-70 Dec 19th, 04, 4:57 PM Its a pain on a 65 but it can be dun,, mite wanna leave the fenderr loose till ya get it in,,, make sure you tape the edges before you start so your dont scape anything
66SS, How did you get your inners in with the fender bolted on? I tried, but I had to loosen all the fender bolts and remove the bolts at the grill/core support area to allow the fender to flex out slightly. I couldn't get it in without doing this.

BowtieAaron Dec 20th, 04, 4:52 PM i had mine out and in in my 71 in the last few days. i didnt loosen the fender or even jack up the car. my car is semi lowered as well, and i just had to work it a lil, but it went in and out. i have to put the long end in 1st, then you turn it, and bring the short rounded end in. have to do this all while it is on an angle. kind of a crappy way to explain it, but if it can be done on a 71, should beable to be done on a 65. also u might want to try to loosen the fender a little bit, or just take off the wheel.

bhawk Dec 23rd, 04, 12:33 AM Put the drivers side inner in tonight. No problem to install the inner with the fender bolted tight in its correct position. I took the wheel off first. Made it much easier. Feed the front in first at an angle and twist down into position, then start any bolt and away you go. Thanks for all replies.
Hi-po SS 454 Dec 23rd, 04, 11:48 AM When I installed my new inner fenders, plastic, on my 71, I didn't want to have any scratches caused by installation, so I used a doubled up sheet and it worked perfect. Slight hassle but worked.
