My son sprayed his engine comp. today with POR15 satin chasis black at his high school autoshop. I didn't get to watch but he said it came out really nice.
I have a couple of concerns. He sprayed alot of this over paint, not overspray on the car exterior, but the black paint on the fire wall etc....is that ok?
He has a few fish eyes, you know the little craters where you can see the primer or paint underneath. Does that mean he will have problems in the future with this finish?
thanks,
bk

POR-15 is meant for application on bare metal only. It peels off easily over painted surfaces. Fish eyes are from silicone impregnated surafces which were not properly prepated before painting. Use Prep Sol before you even sanding a surface. Clean again with a pre-paint cleaner and lacquer thinner as well.

Chasis black is the topcoat. You can put that over paint so you will be fine.Regular POR needs bare metal.

The reg POR-15 is what gives you the permanent rust barrier. It is formulated to go over bare preped (sandblasted best) metal.
The Chassis Black top coat is designed to go over top of the reg POR-15 as both a correct semi-flat finish as well as protection from ultra violet rays from the sun which could change the appearance of the reg POR-15. The Chassis black can be sprayed over regular paint, as long as the prepainted surface is properly prepaired, ie Prep-Sol (wax and grease remover) as Jimmy P. sugested and then scuffed or sanded to give a good bonding surface.
Note: Chassis Black does not contain the make up or great protection characteristics of reg POR-15.
