: Waxing: hand vs. electric buffer?

I'm fairly new to car waxing... I was given an electric buffer for Christmas this year -- has a single speed, but has a nice random-orbit pattern so that it is supposed to be more like hand waxing...

Anyone have opinions on these? It certainly seems to make things faster for me -- and, for me, seems to do a better job even. But, I don't want to hurt anything, of course. My wife's car has a 3-4 coats of clearcoat on top, so I haven't worried about it too much. But, again, I'm still new at this and really haven't done much as far as waxing goes.

Thanks.

I do not have enough info about your single speed buffer ?? speed, size 4" 6" 8" 9"
Sounds more like a low speed orbitial polisher
they work well.. I like to finish a car with a finail wipe down by hand ,with a micro cloth.

Sorry, it is a 10" single-speed. I can get more details if desired (I don't recall and don't have it handy here at work smile.gif ). Thanks.

John,
My thought on elecric buffers was that they could cause swirling in the paint. If you wax by hand, you go in a straight line.
No swirls in paint.

Our problem now is that there are many tiny little scratches going from the hood towards the back all over all of the paint. I don't know if this is normal from just wind and dirt over the years -- or if it was waxed a certain way or what. I assume it is just dirt/wind normal stuff.

I was hoping to remove them using Zymol's Wax Cleaner which is really almost a polish, I believe...

Zaino, baby... it rules. Done by hand, though.

We use it on the wife's Impy SS and it is awesome.
