just replace upper ball joints in 70 chevelle as we all know they are bolt in now do the bolts go from top, nuts on bottom or bolts thru bottom nuts on top? saw upper control arm come thru work today (bodyshop) bolts thru bottom nuts on top i forget what make of car the part was for. thanks

I don't think it should matter, since it's not original rivets. In aviation, you would have the nuts on the bottom, so if the nut fell off, the bolt would have a better chance of staying in, compared to if it was installed the other way. With the ball joint, though, if you lose the bolts it's not going to matter much if they stay in or not.

On my car the nuts were on the top. I imagine so there is less to bind if there ever was extreme movement of the suspension but Gene sure has a good point. Skip

Hey Gene where and what type A/C are you working on? That's from back in my Navy days. I was an avionics tech in a test and evaluation squadon for attack aircraft (VX-5 in China Lake,CA). At the time, it was A-4M, TA-4J, A-6E, A-7E, TA-7C, AH-1J, AH-1T and UH-1N.

Loc tight? Let's talk safety wire ;)
