What are some of the ways to clean the bottom of the body without the use of a rotissery?

I have put a large piece of wall to wall carpet under the car....jacked it up to a comfortable hight.....covered my face, and went to work with wire brushes,solvents,sand blaster and anything I could get under the car and work with. Bottom line...elbow grease.....Albert

Lou,

This is one tough dirty job, and my car was fairly clean underneath.

Here is what i did;

I jacked the car up as high as I could, front and back. The front of the car was on ramps, good industrial grade that I had from a friends shop. On the back I used two very good jack stands.

I removed the rear, the tank, the exhaust and everything else I could get off. Then I removed the body bushings from the mid doors to the rear of the car. I jacked the body off the chassis approx 4 - 6 inches. I placed a few woooden blocks between the chassis and the floor. This gave me clearence to get on top of the chassis and clean those areas of the body underside where the chasis sits too close otherwise.
It also helped to remove and replace the fuel lines, charcoal canister and brake lines.

Then as alss said, I covered my face and eyes, with gogglees, used a good comfortable Snap On creeper and spent the next 6 weekends grinding, sanding cleaning, picking and using anything that I could use. Once done I sprayed the metal with that Eastwoods rust remover, for the areas that where hard to get at, POR'd those same areas, primed the underside and chassis with a rust inhibitive primer, painted the chasis with epoxy and the underside with Underhood black - also from Eastwood.

It was indeed tough - to be honest if I had to do it again - body off with a rotiseree.

Don't want to discourage you but if you can go the rotiseree route.

I have a few pics on my web page that may help for you to see what I did.

Lots of luck.

Rich
