I'm hearing a squeaking/chirping noise whenever I'm decelerating and when the speedo is down about 25-0. Can this be caused if the worm gear thing going into the speedo isn't lubed?

Pull the speedo cable out of its case-check it for
wear.If OK-check the gears graemlins/beers.gif .

Lube the cable as suggested above. Best way is to pull the cable housing out of the back of the speedo and slide the cable out, cover it with white grease, and slide it back into the housing. Then reconnect to back of speedo. "MOST" speedo cables are held on with a PITA spring clip, others screw onto the speedo just as they screw onto the trans.

If that doesn't take care of it, you need the speedo repaired. MOST of the time, this isn't too expensive. Some are so bad that they can't be brought back to life. (I had one 'o them.)

Concering lubricating the speedo cable, most service manuals I have read tell readers not to grease the top couple feet of the cable because the spinning action will "pump" the gease upwards into the speedo head. So grease as stated above, but wipe the grease mostly off the top couple feet near the speedo head before re inserting cable into cable sheath. Greasing the cable has always taken away those noises for me.
