Every now and then there a person selling the 1.35v mercury batteries on eBay for something like $25 a pair. I use standard 1.25v AA batteries in mine and it seems to work fine. Then again, I don't have mine for 'rea'l shifting or racing purposes, just the nostalgia look. The instruction sheet for my EB9A/SST70 setup shows the + and - posts on the sender go to the + and - on the tach head. The DIST post on the sender goes to the ignition side of the coil, and GRN post to ground on the engine. It doesn't specify a transistor ignition - maybe there was another sender for those (?)
