Ok, here is the wonderful work done by the last owner. He welded the motor mounts to the frame;

Yeah... so as you can see its really "quality".
Are those not the right mounts then, apparently? The motor sat really close to the firewall with the HEI. If I grind them off should I be able to just bolt in new 350 mounts, and should the holes already be there? Do most catalogs sell normal chevelle motor mounts, or is this gonna be a hunt 'n peck item?

You should be able to find new motor mounts with ease, but I suggest getting good quality mounts as there are many aftermarket mounts out there that are not very durable and wont last with a high torque motor.
Additionally, the holes should be there, however they may be damaged. Just be careful when you grind the mounts off and try not to damage the frame. You might get lucky. Just my $.02.

I don't think those are correct. The top should be smooth, those look like they are two levels or have an indentation.. And the bolt holes don't look like they are lined up with anything (hence the welding).
I got a repro set, should be easy to find. I forget where I got them. Maybe Ground Up.
And those are frame stands, not motor mounts. smile.gif

You may need new frame stands that bolt to the frame. You didn't say what year you were working on. They are all available. There are also different ones depending on year and engine. But a lot of them interchange. Some have the rubber on the engine, some like the ones you have. Just order the right stuff for your engine and year car. The only set I welded didn't hit any of the frame holes.

Those are 1973 up mounts. In 73 chevy switched to that style with a steel hoop that attatches to the engine and goes over the mount you have. These mounts are much stronger than the 64-72 style, and if the engine sat level and in the correct place I would not switch back to the earlier pieces. The HEI is not a good indicator of engine position as the car was not designed with the clearance for it, but if the trans mounted to the crossmember ok and the crossmember was in the correct holes in the frame everything should be fine.

The "frame brakets" are correct. Not sure on the motor mounts. Don't know the measurements to say if you need "tall and narrow" or "short and wide".
