I'm starting to buff out a acrylic enamel (black) paint job and I was wondering if anyone would like to make a recommendation as to what the most desirable machine would be. I tried using a air powered DA sander/buffer last night and got the impression that it wasn't the right thing? Although it seemed to be very gentle (slow)?
Thanks, Lance

Lance, did you use a hardener in your enamel? If not, You may want to wait about 6 months before attempting to buff it. Did you color sand at all? Color sanding is usually done to get a slick smooth surafce starting with 1000 grit and moving up to 1500 at least before buffing.
As for a buffing machine, I have a Snap-On. It has a speed-control trigger so you can control the speed at all times.
That's what to look for in an electric buffer.

Yep it has catalyst/hardener in it. I wet sanded starting with 1000 grit and ending with 2000 grit. I still seem to have sanding scratches in it. I used 3m microfinish on a mequires(spel) 7000 pad and then 3m glazing compound on a 9000 pad. Maybe I just didn't do enough of the microfinish but I was trying to be cautious and not do too much. The surfaces is very "flat/smooth" so I accomplished that at least I just don't want to look at the marks that make it very obvious that it has been sanded and buffed.

Also, try a pawn shop foir used buffer. I've seen some great ones go for like $60.
If you still have scracthes, 3M has a rubbing compound you use with a #1 wool pad. Follow that up with microfinish & glazing. Sounds like you got the right stuff.
