: more gas ??? I found toluene
freshayr Jun 3rd, 04, 2:38 PM re: mixing your own high octane
I just went shopping and I found a 5 gal can on paint thinner. It lists the ingredients as Toulene, Methyl ethyl Ketone, Methonol. Is this the correct stuff? no straight toluene. I did find sraight Xylene in qts. I also found a mix of Toluene and Methyl Alchohol.
d1_bradley Jun 3rd, 04, 6:04 PM MEK This is nasty stuff. Neoprene gloves are recommended; MEK will eat latex gloves. It also eats plastics, so it is used sparingly and quickly in cleaning.

michael n mississippi Jun 3rd, 04, 9:03 PM it is a great octane booster. 6 onces to a gallon will raise octane 3 points. and is now as cheap as gasoline well almost. you can get it from most industrial pait suppliers

All I gotta say is be careful and good luck and don't believe the guy selling the stuff knows jack - read the label and wear your riot gear. Don't assume anything or take any chances.
Or as Homer Simpson would say "duh"

Mike Feudo Jun 3rd, 04, 11:31 PM Do not even consider getting anywhere near real Tetra ethyl lead. It is one of the most tozic substances you will come across. Toluene is another good one. Long turm exposure causes leukemia. I worked for a large oil company they figured out the heath problems the hard way. People died.
67chevy2 Jun 4th, 04, 2:00 AM Mike; Good advice and subsequent warning!Occasional exposure will probably not adversely affect the average person, but why take the chance.Wear an approved respirator, and still use proper ventilation,as the respirators do not necessarily, and usually do not, remove the really dangerous chemicals,as they are of a smaller chemical structure.I've been exposed to a number of chemicals in my lifetime, and I wish I would have avoided them.Thankfully I'm totally normal.&&6(8%%4332*090^54__=+ graemlins/clonk.gif    redface.gif :D :( smile.gif Steve

I used to work in a place that used Toulene for cleaning ink off printing press equipment. This is dangerous stuff, don't smell it, don't get it on you, just don't use it at all! And who knows what the bi-product of burning Toulene is? So what ever you do, don't be sniffing any tailpipes. graemlins/clonk.gif Dave
