: Hood hinges: fix or replace?

I've got a '67 Malibu with the hood off (hinges still on the fenders). The topmost piece of each hinge, the angle iron that bolts to the hood, is cracking around the frontmost pivot pin on both sides of the car. The rest of each hinge seems OK. I could replace the top pieces with angle stock from the hardware store (I only have to drill four holes), or I could just buy some repro hinges. Are there good ones out there? If I do the repair right, I'll end up with something stronger than the original, so the repro hinges would have to be really solid for me to want them. Any experience?

Thanks.

Unless you can get it right on the money, you'll end up with a misaligned hood. I put some repro hinges on my 69 because the originals were bent. It fixed the hood alignment problem I was having. They fit pretty well, I have no complaints about them. The fun part is putting the springs back on. They can be tough, don't do it alone.
