Can a body shop "patch" the roof where someone put in a sunroof or would they have to replace the whole roof from another car?

This is just a guess, but I would think they'd need to replace the roof with one from a donor car.

Yes it can be done, it will cost you though. All interior will need to be removed first. Next if no structural braces need to be replaced they can weld in a new patch. The finish body work will add up in a hurry with paint. Think about a Vinyl top as an option.

Ahh, big hole in the roof. I can remember when installing aftermarket sunroofs was quite popular. The first time I saw a roof being cut I thought "that doesn't seem like a good idea". Much like tatoos and body piercing about 100% of the people who hacked sunroofs into cars, or who bought a car this had been done to, find themselves wanting to reverse the procedure.

As suggested, a very good idea to turn the car into a vinyl top model. If not, then its best to replace the whole roof.

Any leads on a roof for a 72 Elky around here? The wife's car needs one.

John, I'll keep my eyes peeled for a body shell being parted out.

Thomas Thanks Thomas. Anybody you know have access to that junkyard search system those guys use? Maybe I should call Lakenor??

John, Lakenor is for late model GM. For oldies you need to go to Memory Lane or American Graffiti. The locator system works, but only to the extent that a salvage yard participates. Most of the locator activity revolves around late model cars, many classic salvage yards are not even hooked up to the locator system. You may even want to cruise the Pomona swapmeet (I know, not many good buys there anymore :( ), I do see cars being parted out there, you never know what will show up.

Thanks. The annoying part is I must have walked past a hundred in the last 5 years. Always drag something home and try to sell it at a fair price. Never imagined I would need an Elky roof.
