Watching OverHaulin' right now and am looking to see if system exists for 68-72 Chevelle. Can't seem to find any info.

Did you try the MagnaFlow site? They're slower than .... right now but they have a *hear it now* for 67-72 A bodies.

Update: I checked some other sites that sell MagnaFlow and see nothing but cat-back systems, truck systems, and diesels...back to Flowmaster!

Currently I think flowmaster, torque-tech, and dynomax are the only company's making pre-bent full systems for Chevelles.

Don't forget Pypes Exhaust.

Why not just get the flowmaster kit w/o mufflers and get magnaflows separately?

Can't tell you how much I like the Magnaflow 12578s on my car. aint no race car, but its quiet at idle, cruise, makes good noise at wot and I don't think the full exhaust is robbing any of the lil 427s power at 7000 at all. Nicely constructed, a bit louder after "packing" but hardly noticeable. Good product.

Magna Flow stainless mufflers on my 67... but I went to a custom exhaust shop and had the headers installed with custom mandrell bent 3" pipes to the SS Mufflers and then 2.5" out the tails. My mufflers are shorter than Gene's and thus I would suspect a little louder at idle and a very loud rasp at WOT but I like the sound. Different than Flowmasters... but I also like the flowmaster sound too. Also sounds of the exhaust are different from motor to motor depending on other factors... none the least is the compression of the engine.

Mytmouse: I have the same set up on my 68 (except my magnaflows are not stainless). Love the tone. I took off 2 flo pro's and replaced them with the magnaflows to get a lower pitch.

While it is not quiet the low pitch is much more to my liking.

Grape:

Agreed on the tone ... deep mellow sound, until WOT. Went with the stainles only because they were available and the custom muffler shop was cutting me a price break on the entire system. I kind of like the look from beind cuz you can see this shiny muffler back face and it gets comments once in a while

BTW: That 68 looks absolutely extra nice

MagnaFlow just introduced an A-Body header back system with their clam shell design crossover included.

Plus's

Stainless steel

minus's

very expensive. approx $650
Multi piece system has 3 piece tails. Lots of joints to either clamp or weld.
You must take the mufflers that come with that kit. In dyno tests we conducted some lower hp V8's lost torque and hp with the full flow mufflers.

I can confirm to some extent Ccass's minus' above. I put 2.125 (I believe) primary headers into 3" pipes with free flowing stainless muffler and I lost a ton of low end tourque.

Had a discussion on this board 4or 5 years ago when I did this and the conclusion was that I should have went with smaller primaries on my headers 1.875 -2" and 2 or 2.5" exhaust to the muffler. Not exactly what Ccass indicates above but confirms that too much flow can be detrimental to power if you don't have the power plant to support it. My motor is a stock 396/350HP motor.

No problem though. I am just a cruizer anyway so although I hated to lose the power, the car runs and sounds good which was my main motivator.

I believe the Dynomax is made/owned by Walker, the same brand exhaust systems that NAPA carries/sells. (at least that's what the Dynomax guy told us on the phone). We just bought a set of their ceramic coated headers and they guaranteed them for life.
