This has also been posted in the suspension forum, but I thought the body shop people may have better access to assembly drawings for this one.

I need some help/advice with the rear shock mounting flange on my truck. The truck is a 1990 Chevy C1500 2WD 1/2-ton. I thought the exhaust system I just had put on the truck came loose due to a clanking noise from under the truck, so I took it back to the shop, and they determined the passenger side upper shock bracket was loose. They tried to tighten the bolt, but said they couldn't get it to budge. I watched them try, but they didn't want to use an impact for fear of breaking the bolt, and not having the right tools to fix it. At least they were honest.

My idea is to soak the bolt with penetrating fluid for a few days, and then hit it with my impact gun. Hopefully it will break free, and not snap off.

They said there may have been a rubber shim, or washer between the bracket and the bed of the truck that may have rotted away causing the gap. I looked in the factory service & repair manuals, but it doesn't show the connection of the bed to the frame and brackets.

Does anyone have access to an "Assembly Manual" style drawing for this area with all the nuts, bolts, grommets, and washers shown?

hey jim i just have haynes repair manual it shows a huge rubber gasket/washer big but not thick between mount and bed.the manual is for years 88-98 so don't know how accurate that is for your 90.i'd leave the chevelle in garage also.

Thanks for the reply. The gasket is between the L-shaped bracket, and the bed right?

I may just run by the dealership and see if the can pull up a drawing with a part number on it. I still need to drag the impact out and see if I can loosen the bolt.

Thanks for the info.

I got it fixed yesterday. None of my bed mounts had any type of rubber in them. I just used the impact gun and took the bolt out, and cleaned up the threads with a jeweler's file. The alignment was off so I loosened all the bed bolts and realigned it.
