I guess the first question,,, is the hook the same for a 70 as a 72. I don't know if the bumper's are different or not. The hook I have is for a 70 El Camino.

Next. I'm not sure if I have the right base. I don't know if it even matter's or not, but all the base's have slot's/hole's in them that are different. And one of the base's make the shaft lean.

Can you guy's tell me wich one look's to be correct. Base4 has a u stamped on it. I know the hook's have a u on them too. Does that matter.

A pic of a 72 jack would be great. Thank's, Cal

I posted a couple of jack pictures here: http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/rick/ They are of the jack that was in my 72 el camino when I bought it. Only 55,000 miles then, so I have no reason to doubt that its the original, but no absolute proof either.

The hook is marked with "U1971 Wagon & El Camino". I've seen someone else post that they had a similar inscription.

I checked the Year one on line catalog and it calls for a different part number for 70, so I'd assume that there is something different. The 70 has turn signals in the bumper but there might also be something else that is different with the general shape.

I can get more detailed pictures of specific areas of the jack if you need them.

Thank's a million Rick. When you put the jack in the base, does it stand straight up, or lean quite a bit like the one in my pic's.

My jack cradle read's:

WAGON & PICKUP
UN 1970 3965976

My NPD and OPG catalog's show the rear bumper's as 68-72. Guess I'll have to see what Year one call's different. Thank's again, Cal

My jack stand pretty much stright up. And I was looking at the front bumper - didn't check the rear.

Hey Rick, can you take a profile shot like this one. (http://community.webshots.com/photo/111498365/111905874eaqFFP) Then I can compare then general shape. It look's like the pivot point's may be different. I don't know if that would matter or not. Thank's, Cal

Thank's for all your effort Rick. They seem to be the slightest bit different. It would probly work in an emergency, but hopefully if I ever get my car on the road, I'll have a small floor jack with me anyway. graemlins/clonk.gif

I think I'll post an ad in the member's classified and see if anyone want's to trade. Heck I'll even give them their choice between the 71 Chevelle or 70 El Camino. ;) Thank's again, Cal

a 70 elcamino hook is different from a chevelle. it is also a one year item. the 70 has different bumpers. the jack itself are all the same. just the hook is different.
