: Non Chevelle.....TBI question....

O.k.....in the saga of the big black truck..my 1989 K5 Blazer with 350 TBI now runs.

However its not without fault....

The truck starts up nice and smooth, and at idle will chug a little here and there, but for the most part is smooth.

I drove it up the street, and it seems to hesitate a little as I get on it, then suddenly comes to life.

Slowdown, take a turn and give it fuel and it goes to stall, and sometimes does.

In my opinion, this seems like retarded timing.

However, I never removed the distributor from the motor, and it ran perfectly in my old truck.

It has all of 2 gallons of gas in it..but I doubt this is the problem.

Any ideas?
Thanks!

Hard to diagnose something like that over the Internet, but I would look at the EGR operation, it can cause just such problems. If it comes on too early or when the engine is cold, stalls will happen.

Did you reuse the same ESC module Dave?

I'd first try putting some gas in the tank. Even with a baffled tank it can only help till the fuel gets so low.

more gas in the tank first, start with the basics

Oddly......I remembered the previous owner telling me that he had dropped the tank to do the fuel pump, and immediately thereafter, that the fuel gauge didnt read anymore....

The first time I put 2 gallons in with a can, it spit half of it back at me....

Same for the second time....

And again today at the gas station...

So obviously something is amiss with the tank.

However, after I put in more fuel, it did solve the stalling problem. Still runs a little rough and could use some fine tuning, but the real villan lies in the TANK!

The saga continues!

Drop the tank and get it relined..it is worth every penny with a problem like that. I wouldn't use that gas in any other vehicles without filtering it first either.

Some of those tanks had loose baffles in them that could be interfering with the meter. Maybe the last guy that had the tank out smashed the fuel lines or may have twisted them.

Dave,
I had a friend do this in an elcamino and he had to modify something in the fuel tank to hold enough gas when he went around a corner the fuel pump could still pump gas if the gas shifted in the tank.
