I've finally gotten a new ministarter for my 'Velle.

First of all it's got the wrong bolt-pattern (in-line, my block has the other way don't-know-the-word)So I have to drill and tap a new bolthole.

a) any advice or is it pretty straightforward?

b) is it really necessary? I've seen a 350 block with dual boltpatterns. Do they all have that?

c) how can I be sure I got the right starter for my flexplate? I don't know if its a 153 or 168 tooth. It's a 1972 L48 350.
I was thinking of yanking my old starter, count the teeth on the gear and compare with my new one...

"Staggered bolt pattern".

A)Don't drill ! Get a new starter.
B)Most blocks are drilled for both.
c)153=Straight bolt pattern. 168=staggered bolt pattern.

Even if you drill the starter will not work. It's matching the flywheel you need to worry about not the bolt holes. If yours are "staggered"then get a
staggered bolt starter cause you have a 168th flywheel.

Good luck !
