This summer I finally became the owner of a chevelle after about ten years of teen and pre-teen lust. She had a coat of primer over a pretty solid body when I got her (1967 malibu). My concern is with minor surface rust that is beginning to show through the primer. It's not a bubbling up type of rust, just more of a discoloration. I don't have the cash for a fresh coat of paint, and don't see how I will until I get outta college (couple of years). Any advice on how to keep the rust in check until I shell out for a "real" paint job would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for helping out.

Sand it down, coat it with an etch primer followed by an epoxy primer like PPG's DPLF.

I've checked out PPG's website as well as the forum archives, but with all the different types and model numbers of paint I'm pretty confused. Which self etching primer should I use? Does the color of the primer matter? And can I (inexperienced) handle the job? Just some basic steps would help me greatly. Thanks
