Havent tried, but I have a tilt/tele from a 73 deville. One thing I found right away is that the steering wheel is part of the tele locking system, not sure if a "cool" steering wheel could be used. I sold the steering wheel so someday I will give it a try.

Sounds like we need to take a trip to Leons and give it a try Pete.

This won't really answer your question but my 69 C-10 stepside has a 1978/79 era Caddy tilt/telescopic column in it. It was in when I bought the truck but after looking it over, it appears as though it was a bolt in. The only mod I can find is due to the fat upper column, some of the speedometer bezel had to be cut out. That may or may not be a problem in a Chevelle.

About the only way your gonna know for sure is to set one in and see what's what.

The telescopic lever is a challenge when changing steering wheels. The original wheels was ugly so I added a chrome wheel with a wood rim. I modified the horn cap so the lever stuck through. You'll have to get creative and fab something when using a different wheel.

I just bought a 1985 Firebird wheel that I'm considering adding. That type of wheel has a long section below the spokes of the wheel so I can cut a notch out for the lever to come through. The only downside is it's not "old school" looking enough for me and my truck so not sure if I want to use it.

Not sure if any of this helped. Good luck...

Pete I have an 82 Eldorado tilt/telescopic. It appears to be a bolt in for the 69 and newer. I wrote to Grant products about installing one of their wheels and was told to use installation kit #6401 which will allow full function of the tilt and telescopic features.

Since I am out of Chevelles for now it will be going into my 75 Nova. Some quick measurements indicate it will bolt right into the Nova. The only variable at this time is the intermediate shaft connection. The Caddy has a d shaped shaft and I haven't pulled the Nova apart to see what it has, but no biggie at the very most it will require different intermediate shaft.
I have some photos of the column if you want to see them and I could give you the measurements from the mount to the floor and overall length.

i put a 66 cad tilt/tele in my sons 66 elcamino...i fab'd a 70 three spoke wheel and hub onto it...it went right in with a colapsable steering shaft. the only thing that i didn't get done was to fab a working horn button....he has the car at his house so i can't post pictures....but it looks cool and works really well....and if the kid wants a horn i figured he could do it ...after all i built and gave him the el camino with a new 454 th400 12bolt and vette rally's all he has to do is paint it and get the horn working.
