I would like to build a 283 using lots of L-79 parts, but first a little back ground on the project. I have a 1967 Chevy C10 short fleetside that my grandpaw bought new. It was kind of a plain jane canadian built truck with a 250 6 cyl and 3 speed white with white bumpers and grill with red interior. I bought it from my cousin back in 90 and drove it during high school and college. During that time I swap it over to the 71 disc brakes and 5-lug and swapped in a 67 283 and th350. At this time the truck was primer gray or black and the 283 had 71 350 truck heads and 64 corvette intake and WCFB carb (later swapped for a holley) After years of sitting in the shed I'm finally ready to rebuild it. I want to build it to look original but updated some kind of like how I would have built it had I been on the assembly line at the time. I want to paint it baby blue with white top and chrome bumpers and grill lowered with a 18"/20" rim and a white and blue interior(Thanks to KXmotoX247 for the insparation)see his similar looking truck at http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php3?t=127799
I never seem to like the small back window with darker colors. I want to retain the 67 283 block and install the 1.94 double hump heads from that same 64 vette that the intake came from years ago. This time I want to use the L-79 intake but paint it to match along with a black painted L-79 air cleaner. I will be using the stock "chevrolet" script valve covers. The reason for no chrome and all paint is that there was no chrome on the truck assembly line and if it was sneaked in it would be hard to get it by all the supervisors but painted like stock it could have been. I will attempt to make it factory correct using mostly 65, 66, and 67 parts. Now for the reason of the post. I don't see many build-ups of the 283 and don't know what would be a good cam in this small cubic inch but fast reving engine. Thanks for any input. Sorry for the long post but I hope you can see my vision for honoring the stock look for my grandpaw but with some fun added for me.

After reading my post the question was not clear. The engine is a 67 283 .030 over flat top pistons, 64 1.94 double hump heads 64cc chambers with new 3 angle valve job hardened seats and screw in studs. The intake will be a 3844461 L-79 intake with a 600 cfm holley vacuum sec and the 6415616 fuel pump. 3.73 gears and (one of the few unoriginal parts)I will slip a 700r4 and 2000 rpm stall in for driveablity. I want to use those repo rams horn exhaust manifolds with the 2 1/2" outlets but cannot find them with the angled dump that's needed only the straight dump ones that won't clear the engine mounts. Has anyone seen the 2 1/2" angled manifolds? What would be a good cam choice? I loved that little engine in it's mostly stock form and don't know why more are not used these days.

I am planning on doing the exact same thing with my 64 C10, currently with 250/3spd. My new engine will be a 350, but I also have a 3844461 manifold like you. I would like to use the L79 valve covers, but they don't have PCV holes and my later model block doesn't have provisions for a road draft tube, so I haven't figured out how to resolve the crankcase venting issue. I plan to use rams horn exhaust as well, but I don't feel real strongly about the angled ones. If the straight dump ones will clear, that's what I'll use.
