I would like to build a 283 using lots of L-79 parts, but first a little back ground on the project. I have a 1967 Chevy C10 short fleetside that my grandpaw bought new. It was kind of a plain jane canadian built truck with a 250 6 cyl and 3 speed white with white bumpers and grill with red interior. I bought it from my cousin back in 90 and drove it during high school and college. During that time I swap it over to the 71 disc brakes and 5-lug and swapped in a 67 283 and th350. At this time the truck was primer gray or black and the 283 had 71 350 truck heads and 64 corvette intake and WCFB carb (later swapped for a holley) After years of sitting in the shed I'm finally ready to rebuild it. I want to build it to look original but updated some kind of like how I would have built it had I been on the assembly line at the time. I want to paint it baby blue with white top and chrome bumpers and grill lowered with a 18"/20" rim and a white and blue interior(Thanks to KXmotoX247 for the insparation)see his similar looking truck at http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php3?t=127799
I never seem to like the small back window with darker colors. I want to retain the 67 283 block and install the 1.94 double hump heads from that same 64 vette that the intake came from years ago. This time I want to use the L-79 intake but paint it to match along with a black painted L-79 air cleaner. I will be using the stock "chevrolet" script valve covers. The reason for no chrome and all paint is that there was no chrome on the truck assembly line and if it was sneaked in it would be hard to get it by all the supervisors but painted like stock it could have been. I will attempt to make it factory correct using mostly 65, 66, and 67 parts. Now for the reason of the post. I don't see many build-ups of the 283 and don't know what would be a good cam in this small cubic inch but fast reving engine. Thanks for any input. Sorry for the long post but I hope you can see my vision for honoring the stock look for my grandpaw but with some fun added for me.
