I have seen a few 69 chevelles with passenger side mirrors. Was this an option for that year? thanks in advance

Not factory installed, but an official GM accessory for dealer (or owner) installation.

Any idea how it is done since there isn't the support framework inside the door?

I put a pass. mirror on my 68 and there was no support. It is real sturdy and solid. Looks real nice too. Of course it doesnt help that i have the 'square' mirrors on what whould be the 'rounds' mirrors... But they look good

I drilled and tapped a metal plate for the inside of the door. I then screwed the mirror base plate through the door to the metal plate inside. Worked fine. You could probably pop rivet the mirror base plate to the door skin itself with no problem. A little overkill never hurts though.

I am looking in the AM on page 43. There is a part number, 3914753 for "mirror asm. L.D." and a part number 3914754 "R.D.". Would that mean there was a passenger side mirror installed at the factory?

Left Door & Right Door maybe ?

My 69 had the RD mirror on it when I got the car and I can't remember if there is metal support inside the door or not now.

When I was at Chevelle Showdown in Peoria, IL in (I think)1987 I bought a new NOS RD mirror still in the GM box. After I installed it I found out the mirror was not tight enough at the ball mount and after driving a few blocks it would fall down out of adjustment. :(

I wound up putting my old original one back on.

TDW, "R.D. and L.D." meant right hand drive or left hand drive. Some cars were shipped overseas and required right hand drive steering setups. In such cases, the mirror would be on the other side.

In any case the mirror by that number should work but the door won't have the inner braces to support it.

Keith's idea sounds like your best bet.
