Wel, since I have developed a leak around the fuel sending unit on my 65 ragtop it looks like I will have to drop the gas tank and install the new sending unit and gasket I have been trying to avoid. Any tips on dropping the tank? It looks pretty straight forward, disconnet the fuel lines and electrical connections, remove the bolts at the rear of the car and it looks like it should drop down. Of course it is full of gas ( won't be long at the rate it is leaking)so I suppose I'll have to drain it. Anything you guys have experienced that I need to know? Thanks.......

removed mine exactly as you state, the only issue I had was the tank was literally "stuck" to the underside of the body and required some pulling and tugging to get it to unstick. Otherwise was really simple. Definately drain it first. Brad.

You could probably get by with a $1.00 gasket (thick o-ring) for your sending unit if your fuel gauge worked correctly. Hate to be cheap but also don't like throwing another $80 or so bucks away.

When I dropped mine there was a gallon or two that I couldn't get out, and it makes a significant weight difference.

If you have one of those creepers that converts from a creeper to a rolling stool, I put one of those (as a stool) underneath it. Then it only "fell" about two inches. I could then roll it out from under the car on the stool. Worked pretty well.

i took my tank out when it was about half full.. i laid down on my creeper and dropped it on my chest and rolled out from under the car.. slid it off and carried it away.. it would have been easier if i drained it first but it was doable for me..

Does the collar that holds the sending unit turn counter clock wise or clock wise to remove?
