i ripped out my old exhast system awhile back and have put a pair of dynomax full length headers on my small block, and was planning on taking it to an exhaust shop to weld up some pipes. what type of mufflers should i get, i was thinking 2.5" offset/center, these should line up just fine right? i just planned on having a turndown after the muffler

It's really your call, but, quite honestly, glass packs are really out of style. I think that for the most part, if you install glass packs, you will be somewhat regarded as "not with it". That's more opinion than fact.
The Flowmaster type of mufflers seem to be more desireable by the majority today. Also, the turbo style seems to still be a common choice for those who don't want the more pronounced rumble of a Flowmaster.
I will tell you this, if you add turndowns behind the muffler-----------------it sounds really good if you are standing on the curb as the car goes by------------------------BUT IT WON'T TAKE LONG FOR YOU TO GET SICK AND TIRED OF THE RESONANCE WHICH WILL BE CREATED BETWEEN THE PAVEMENT AND UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR! Trust me! (after about 3-4wks, if you drive the car frequently, you will be asking, where was my brain!!!)

Correct for a Chevelle is offset/offset.

The outlet depends on your tailpipes. Since yours is custom, it doesn't matter. The center, center flow the best. But don't fit well, so you usually get offset on the inlet. From what I've been told, the dynomax ultraflows/race magnums are quieter than the flowmasters and will flow better. The Hooker Aerochambers ($55ish) are quieter than flowmasters and probably do flow more. The Aero's will probably have the least resonance with turndowns. Your wife will probably hate the turndowns regardless. You can get tail pipes later if you want, or get a flowmaster set and install them yourself.

If you want a mandrel bent set installed, there are two shops down here in Bakersfield with mandrel benders. If you want to make the drive. They have flowmasters and racemagnums and will probably let you listen prior to welding them up.

ya, i was looking at the flowmaster 40-series, i wont mind it being that loud. so i guess i could do offset/offset and have them put some pipes out the back, might cost more but hey, its just money.

are those summit turbo mufflers or whatever they're called worth the $15 they cost?

Yeah, they are worth it. I ran those and turndowns, it sounded nice, but as Tom says, after a while living in the "boom box" got annoying. BTW, they are directional, the mighty mind at Midas put one on nbackwards, and it must've blew something out during a 7300 rpm blast, so then it rattled after that. Just be aware, they were directional mufflers.

John,
Not sure what you are trying to achieve sound wise, but remember a Fifteen dollar muffler is just that, worth Fifteen dollars, you get what you pay for!

Rocky Believe it or not, sometimes you get a lot for your money. The Summit Turbos cost about that, work well and sound good (to me at least).

I like my cherry bombs! They really aren't all that loud, until you put your foot in it. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

They're straight through, and seem to fit fine...
