Sorry for such a basic question but...What temp sould I be running at in my 68 with a 350?

It generally runs between 180 and 190 but after sittng in traffic on a hot day it will get up around 210.

Is this ok? If not what should I do to bring it down?
I don't know much about the internals (thermostat etc.) I purchased the car as is.

Thanks

210 wont hurt anything,,,water boils at 212,,,anti freeze raises the boiling temp of water,,,a good pressure cap raises the boiling temp even more...210 for short periods won't hurt it...mine runs between 180-200*

That temp is fine. Stock thermostat was set to open at 195.

make sure you have a fan shroud on it my 68 el camino runs 190/195 all day here in the desert where it gets to be 115 each day. No problems with overheating here

Agree with comment on fan shroud. It will defonitely run hotter if the shroudis not in place, I am newcomer and cannot figure out how to add new topic, so I apologize fro asking here but does anyone know if a 77 Buick Riviera rearend will work on a 64 Chevelle convertible?

At the very bottom left of this page, there is a "post new topic" button. That's what your looking for. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

As usual this board has been very helpfull.

I do have a shroud. So I guess I will not worry about the temp I'm running.

Has anybody tried a product called "water wetter"?
It's supposed to lower your temp and cut your warm up time. Is it real or a gimmick?
thanks.

first thing is any engine will benifit from a cooler temp to a certain extent first thing is fanshroud if you have one next is your clutch fan is it good or if ya have a flex fan next step would be take that 190 or 195 stat and throw it in the dumpster get a 175 180 tops most engines like to run in the 180 range and your question does water wetter work hell yea it does i use it in all the race engines and some street type to but bassicaly the race engines cause we dont run antifreeze in them antifreeze will destroy a cylinder bore instantly if it gets in.. hope that helps
