I picked up a 1969 SS recently. It is all there except the engine and trans. The car has manual steering(rare?), power disc brakes, its a 4spd bech seat car with original 12 bolt rear(3.55?) all emblems and trim intact the car is going to get a full frame off resto. I was wondering what this car could be worth restored. I got it from a guy (second owner) for $500 and a set of iron rect port bb heads. Is there any way to figure out what engine it came with originally? Any thoughts? I will try and post some pics soon. Thanks

Might be able to find what the original engine was by decoding the VIN. I am not sure how they did the VIN in 69 but i know you can find this information in the 72 VIN. I have a book at home that decodes the VIN but i won't be home for over a week. I will let you know then if you haven't got an answer before that.

Most likely the car had the 396/325 HP. Don't know this for sure, but I thought a lot of the solid lifter cars had manual disc brakes, not power. Either way, as long as the car is not in need of replacement of every piece of sheetmetal, that's a heck of a buy.

Value finished is very subjective - completely determined by the level of the restoration. But the 69's are going through the roof now.

The car is very soild. It came from Arkansas early in its like (aound 71) and has been here in AZ since. All glass and sheetmetal is good, it needs interior redone and some minor body work. I couldnt pass it up for the price. Thanks for the input

There is no way to tell for sure what engine a USA built 69 had unless you find a build sheet or protect-to-plate etc.

Post the VIN and body tag info in the Tag Team forum

You got one heck of a deal it, it's probably worth 20 - 30 K restored if you can find proof that it is in fact a real SS car.
