: Anyone have a passenger side mirror on a '68?

I have a '68 that did not come with a pass mirror on the door but I want to add one. I bought the generic bowtie ones but the passenger side is useless. If mounted in a similar location on the door as the driver's side, you cannot pull the mirror in far enough to actually see out of it.

I noticed that the Paddock sells a "convex" mirror for the passenger side and I spoke with them about it and they said it would not help with my issue.

Anyone have tips?

If the stem of mirror is in the middle it will not turn in far enough. Should be same as my 69, there is a right and left and the stem is offset to one side. I installed one on my 69 and had same problem, you need a right hand mirror. Mike

From everything I've been able to find out about the right side 68 mirror, it was a deader installed option which is in the "Custom Feature Accessories For 1968" catalog. The mirror has the same part number as the left side. G.M. still lists the mirror and it is available for about $65.00. It's not as functional as the mirrors on todays cars, b/c they are small, round, and not convex. The mirror can be seen in my sig. pic below..

I did buy a right hand mirror for my 69 and it wont adjust far enough either. I got these mirrors from Lutys and they were different part numbers labled right and left.

I've got the "generic bowtie" mirror on my 68, I put it there, because I missed having one there, like todays cars.

I used the mounting location of the drivers side, and I can see it fine.
I just can't see very much with it, because it doesn't magnify, and is not convex.

I have a 68 (6 cyl 300 deluxe 2 door) that has a passenger mirror. I'm not sure if it's original, since I'm the 3rd or 4th owner

From the rear, the mirrors appear identical, same rectangular shape, etc. From the front, the swivel connection is much beefier on the driver's side.

Have I added anything to the conversation? Maybe not, this could be a JC Whitney's addition, but I can take and post pictures (after the hurricane preparation, of course :\ ) Let me know.

EDIT: It's not a significant addition to visibility, but I am able to adjust the passenger mirror enough to be useful.

I may be remembering this all wrong, but somewhere in the cobwebs of my mind I seem to recall you could take those mirrors in your hand and rotate them (90 - 180 degrees?) and when you did that, it made them tilt better towards the driver.

Thanks for all of the responses. Seems like a convex mirror would work better? If so, Paddock does now sell one for the passenger side and maybe the person I spoke with did not know what they were talking about. Strange that the cars seem to have come with both square and round mirrors from the factory. Mine driver's side is round so I want to stick with that on the passenger side.

BTW, 71SSBB, your car looks great!

Also, how can I have an email sent to me when someone replies to this post? I have looked everywhere and I can't figure it out.

The mirror head will turn 360 degrees, it depends on where it is in that circle as to how much adjustment you get. the mirror head is not centered on its mount, as the mirror turns the head will either be closer or further away from the door. Give that a try.

I will give that a try once I put the seats back in - thanks.
