Reinstalled a rebuilt tranny, hooking up the cooling lines and driveshaft tonight. This is my first dance with a new transmission, so my question is how do I go about filling up the fluid? Are there steps to it? I don't want it burned up on test fire!

And curiously, how does the fluid get to the converter? Please don't tell me you have to preload it! :confused:

Your supposed to pour at least a quart of atf fluid into the convertor before installing it. I dont know what would happen if you didnt, but id find out before I tried to start it.

I didn't preload my converter when I was rebuilding my drivetrain. I put three quarts of ATF in the tranny before I fired it up for the first time, and kept adding ATF while I was breaking in my Cam. Why do you have to put a quart of ATF in the torque converter before starting? Like I said, I never preloaded my torque converter but it works just fine.
