Should I use a Single stage for my chrystler flame red solid base color and then clear over it as I have been reading about many people doing on hear? If so do I still use the DBC and just mix it differently to make it a Single Stage?

Why would you not just spray it with DBC or DBU and then clear it like usual?

I am not familer with the PPG system and clearing over SS, so I certainly don't have all the answers you are after. However, with other SS systems I have used the recoat time is VERY long. You have to wait many hours before you can clear, it is a real pain in the butt.

I have shot Flame Red on a number of projects, I just used the bc/cc system and they are beautiful.

Zach, Id stick with the DBC. As Martin metnioned YES you can topcoat with clear without sanding but you need to wait for a few hrs depending on the hardner used and if the color is solid or metallic. With a range of 2hrs to 6hrs wait time.

The reason for the longer time on metallic colors is because when you spray on that clear you are adding solvent, you apply it too soon and you can swirl the metallics. Happens with basecoat also.

Am guessing you got the idea of SS from ME??!!
The only reason am using SS is because when I applied my pearl coats the SS yellow gave me a nicer looking yellow then DBC did. Now if you took those samples that I made and showed 100 people Id bet 99 of them wouldnt see the difference.

Id stick with DBC when spraying that flame red, much easier to spray and correct any problems if they occur...Eric
