I just completed the sb to bb conversion on my 72 SS. I have the hedman elite headers and relocated my proportioning valve as much as I possibly could and have approx 1/4" clearance between the forward corner of the valve and the headers.
Is 1/4" enough clearance?
Has anyone else had this problem before?
Thanks

One of my cars has the p valve mounted on the frame and the header is like you said, 1/4 to 3/8 in... away at the rear of the brass valve.
I have had no problems and it's been over 4 years and many many miles since the Disk brake conversion .
Other then dinging the header, I see no other alternative other then grounding off some brass for extra clearance if deemed necessary.

The header on my 70 is almost resting on the distribution block, never had any problems in the 5 years I've had it done.

On my 70 SS the hooker supercomp headers were virtually touching the metering block and when I took the cover off the master cylinder the fluid blew out as it was boiling. What a mess! Moved the valve back and up about an inch away from the headers, no more boiling. In the hooker installation sheet it stated to maintain clearance. By the way, the headers were on the car when I bought it.

Dynomax coated headers,,dinged them to clear the distribution block,no problems stopping at all. I think Teder must have had an extremely lean condition to actually boil brake fluid in the master cylinder with the collecter or near it touching the dist. block/prop.valve.

You could always wrap a bit of asbestos heat tape at that point on the headers.
