Has anyone used PPG laquer before? How did you like it? I saw it on there website. BC/CC don't do much for me, i've seen too many to know there not that great. They look exactly like there name implies. Reminds me of getting my library card laminated way back when, no depth and not to flat. I have a 61 Buick that was painted over twenty years ago in laquer and the local body shop thought it was just painted when i took it in to get the door repainted because of door dings. They did not want to attempt to duplicate the quality.

You have been looking at the wrong paint jobs then. I wouldnt even think about doing lacquer with the materials out there now. We use PPG products exclusivly and they are great to work with and depth and all is not a problem if applied right.

If you want Lacquer use Dupont Lucite, it's the best there is. I don't know what Lacquer paint jobs you looked at but done correctly nothing compares with a good lacquer paint job. The only problem with lacquer is they are not as durable as the newer type of paints.

John,
My 64 Chevelle SS is almost finished being painted. I went with a quality restoration shop that uses PPG products exclusively.
My car was originally painted black laquer (Tuxedo Black).
I wanted to stay with black and thought laquer would be the way to go. The shop I went with (along with a couple other shops I talked to) said the same thing that Micky
said here.
So, my new paint is PPG Tripple Black and it was done as a single stage paint job. No BC/CC. The shop didn't recommend BC/CC with black or other solid colors. I also don't like the look of black cars with BC/CC. Of course the paint is well protected but it has kind of a plastic look about it.
Anyway long story short, you may want to consider a single stage paint job (with PPG or some other good quality system) if you want your ride to have more of an original appearance. Depends on the color too.

That is one thing I forgot to mention. If it is black do the single stage urethane. We used concept single stage on the black COPO Chevelle and it is super. We did just sprayed a GTO with Hugger orange and did BC/CC and it looks pretty nice also, but for black for sure stay single stage.
