: Help! Transmission won't get out of gear!

This weekend, I replaced the vacuum line that goes from the intake manifold of my 1968 Chevelle 327 to the Turbo-350 transmission because the rubber hose was dry-rotted and cracked. It was so frayed, it popped out of the outlet on the transmission. I put in the new hose (with a T-coupling to my vacuum gage). It appears the hose came out of the top of a circular diaphragm on the right side of the transmission. After it was all hooked up, I was pulling 15 inches of Mercury at idle, and everything shifted and worked fine. Within 36 hours of doing this, the transmission won't get out of gear now. If I put it in drive (or reverse) and give it some gas, it will just start to crawl a little bit. Could I have hooked this vacuum line into the wrong port on the transmission? What does this vacuum line do? Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated (as always!) Thank you in advance!

Have you checked fluid level?

I thought about the fluid level - a few days ago, it was fine and I haven't seen any trace of leakage. I know you are supposed to check the fluid level when the engine is warmed and the transmission is in drive. If I check it without the transmission getting in gear, will I get a false reading?

i dont think its a good idea to check it while its in drive, u could kill yourself.

just let it run until the engine is all warmed up in park, pull the stick out and check it. add if needed.

that sucks man, idk wut else to say. im in a really bad mood now after finding out i have wut looks like 2 cracks in my powerglide. no wander it was leaking fluid.

The vacuum modulator may have failed. This is the part the hose plugs into on the transmission. They are simple to replace, but be careful when you pull the old one out. There's a small metal pin in there that often gets lost when someone does this job for the first time. You will need to reuse this pin.

This is what I'd try first.
