: Dent

There is a dent between the wheel and door in my 85 el camino.

I took it to a body shop and they said they couldn't do anything and it would cost $1100 for a whole new panel put on.

I tried to pull the dent with a screw in dent puller but it didn't work. The body shop also tried a suction cup puller which did nothing.

Someone mentioned jacking it out for inside the car (in the cubby) but there is a inner piece in the way.

What should I try next?

I am not very experienced with body work how hard is it to replace the whole panel?

What tools would I need?

Any other advice?

Without seeing the dent, it is darn hard to say anything. But, EVERY dent could be pulled with a slide hammer. How long it would take or if that is the right tool to do the best job is another story.

Post a picture and let us take a look at it.

Make the photo back from the car so the whole quarter can be seen.

I tried a slide hammer type dent puller and it just made little mounds and wouldn't pull the dent out.

Should I just try and reap on it (I didn't do this before cus I didn't wanna make it worse.)

If you have never done this before you can really mess things up in a hurry. There is some more then just putting a slap hammer to it and popping it out you need to work the area with a body hammer and relieve the stress that is in those areas. I highly recommend you leave it to a pro. That srcew dent puller to me is just causing more damage to your quarter. You will need to weld up those holes in the end, what you need is a stud gun. The same idea as the srcew puller but welds a small nail that can be easily removed and leave no sign of been there unlike the screw that leaves a hole.

If your body shop doesnt have a stud gun find a new body shop. Have you looked for a second opinion on your dent, your shop said they could do nothing with it the shop down the road might be able to fix it. NOt all shops are the same, some are better equipped and better staffed. If a stud gun wont pull it a frame machine will, Ive seen some quarters that looked like they need a new one only later after some time on the frame rack needed just a slight coat of bondo. If you know what you are doing and have the tools you can do about anything...Eric

I agree with Eric. You really need a professional to do this job. Asking us how to fix this damage yourself is like asking us to put years if experience on a 5 0r 6 lone post.
